The seventh generation of the BMW M5 abandons the pure combustion engine formula to adopt a plug-in hybrid system. The recipe is still dominated by the 4.4-litre V8 biturbo, but an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic gearbox raises the combined output to 727 hp. The result is the most powerful M5 in history, but also the heaviest.
